Paul Teixiera
Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Body + Balance Center Founder, Paul Teixeira, became interested in physical therapy at the age of 11 after receiving care for a left shoulder tendinitis from competitive swimming. In school, Paul enjoyed studying biology and physiology and liked sharing his knowledge to help others become better at their sports.
Paul’s career in competitive swimming allowed him enough financial assistance to attend a NCAA division I University in the United states. He was fortunate enough to be accepted into Ohio University’s physical therapy program. After graduation in 1992, Paul traveled to California where he happened to drive through San Luis Obispo. He loved the area so much that he picked up a phone book and started calling local clinics.
These days, Paul enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, camping, swimming and surfing. He is passionate about good food and educating himself on health related issues. Paul has been certified by the APTA as an “Exercise Expert for Aging Adults.”
Paul has recovered from personal injuries including PCL and MCL tears in his knee, a shoulder separation, foot injury, and lumbar disc and cervical injuries. These injuries have helped him to better understand the long-term commitment, perseverance, and dedication it takes to make a full recovery.
